What is your child passionate about? What talent does your child/young adult with autism (ASD) have? Everyone is born with a talent or passion and I believe it is the responsibility of the parent or carer to guide the child in finding that passion. Generally, children with challenges are passionate about a subject or topic very early on in age and this may be glaring if they are delayed in their other educational subjects WIth autism, the term “Savant Behaviour” is used to describe someone with significant mental abilities. they can demonstrate certain abilities far over average. This could be in maths, Art, Music, performing arts etc. It is the same as being gifted and talented in an area of interest. How can you find this in your child? By observation and communication if they are verbal. If they are non-verbal mainly observation. When you realize that passion then you need to grow it.
